MINUTES


Present:  John Adams, President; Lance Engle, Vice President; Valerie Alexander, Secretary; Alice Gillis, Member; Jacob Case, Member; Darin Gullion, Assistant Superintendent; and Greg Kile, Superintendent


An executive session was held at 5:45 p.m. at the Administration Building.  Immediately following the executive session was the regular scheduled board meeting.

At 6:30 p.m. Board President, John Adams called the meeting to order.

  1. Ryan Parrott requests permission to attend the IASP Fall Principals Conference to be held from November 19, 2023 through                 November 21, 2023 at the JW Hyatt in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Bethany Davis, Christy Myers, Jerry Mendenhall, Carrie Cooper, and Larry Cicotte request permission to attend UFLI Foundations to be held on November 27, 2023 at Central Office.

  1. Use of Facilities


  1. Stacey Woolsey, ECI Basketball, requests permission to use the Royerton Elementary gymnasium from November 2023 through February 2024 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to hold basketball practice, pending Certificate of Liability Insurance Form.


  1. Tyronda Benning, DHS Girls’ Basketball, requests permission to use the Delta High School gymnasiums from November 7, 2023 through        March 5, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to hold a youth development league, as presented.


  1. Austin Smith, Delta Girls’ Softball, requests permission to use the Royerton Elementary cafeteria on November 16, 2023 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to hold a softball meeting, as presented.


  1. Aaron Wine, Delta Wrestling Club, requests permission to use the Delta High School gymnasiums on December 10, 2023 from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to hold elementary duals, as presented.


  1. Joe Deckman, Eaton Youth Basketball League, requests permission to use the Eaton Elementary gymnasium from January 6, 2024 through    February 3, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to hold basketball camp, as presented.


  1. Aaron Wine, Delta Wrestling Club, requests permission to use the Delta High School gymnasium on January 21, 2024 from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to hold Rumble at the Nest, as presented.


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Valerie Alexander to approve the request for an unpaid day, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Valerie Alexander and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the AES Nurse Long Term Sub, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the Albany Permanent Utility Easement, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Superintendent Kile informed the Board about the 2024-25 School Calendar- 1st Reading.


  1. A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve the Change Order for the DHS Auditorium project, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Lance Engle to approve the Ivy Tech Agreement, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Superintendent Kile informed the Board about the following fundraisers:


  1. Wendy Brown and Morgan Jones, DMS DJHS, request permission to collect donations for Secret Families from November 6, 2023 through November 20, 2023, as presented.  Proceeds go towards Secret Families.


  1. Chyenne Wilder, Eaton Elementary, requests permission to hold fundraisers for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year, as presented.


  1. Assistant Superintendent


  1. Donations:


A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the following (items 1-2):


  1. Request for Delta High School to accept the donation of $50.00 from John Clark, as presented.

  2. Request for Albany Elementary to accept the donation of $3,000.00 from AES PTO, as presented.

The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

A motion was made by Valerie Alexander and seconded by Lance Engle to approve the following (items b-c):

  1. Request for the IT Department to surplus items, as presented.  

  2. Request for the Maintenance Department to surplus items, as presented.

The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS


Jacob Case – Mr. Case thanked everyone for being here.  He congratulated the football team for winning the sectional championship.  He wished them good luck this Friday.  He welcomed all new staff and thanked the staff who are leaving for the time they served our school and stated it doesn’t go unnoticed.  He thanked all principal’s and stated there’s been a lot going on the last few weeks and they’ve done a great job keeping our kids safe and happy.  


Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis welcomed Ms. Domingo.  She concurred with Mr. Case about the principals.  She wished Mr. Parrott good luck with his Grandparents’ Day and Veterans Day programs and stated she’s enjoyed a few of those herself.  She congratulated Nikki Southerland and the football team as they move forward.  She thanked Dr. Gullion for his financial report and stated as long as he’s keeping us above water, we are in good shape.  She thanked Ms. Hall for her time.


Valerie Alexander – Ms. Alexander congratulated all sports teams as they are headed into the holiday craziness.  She wished good luck to everyone on finishing out the semester and keeping everyone on track.  She concurred with Mr. Case and stated everyone rose to the occasion and she appreciates all the things going on and the hard work everyone is putting into that.  


Lance Engle – Mr. Engle thanked Ms. Hall for her time at Albany and her commitment to keeping the building clean.  He stated she’s been a big part of Albany Elementary the last 15 or so years.  He congratulated Nikki Southerland for winning the Mental Attitude Award.  He stated that’s not a small thing and she’s definitely deserving of that.  He commented you couldn’t find a better person than her and stated 2nd place may stink, but 2nd place three times is amazing.  He congratulated the football team on winning sectionals.  He stated that’s no small thing and a tough thing to do in football.  He wished good luck to them in regionals.  He congratulated Tyler Dillon for qualifying for State.  He stated Grandparents’ Day and Veterans Day Programs are special things that we have and they are usually very well attended.  He stated the teachers and students go all out and thanked them for their programs.  


John Adams – Mr. Adams stated Mr. Engle is an Army Veteran and thanked him for his service.  He stated he himself was a part of the Navy and Veterans Day does mean a lot and he’s proud we still have folks that want to recognize that.  He thanked everyone for doing that.  He welcomed Ms. Domingo and stated this is one big family and he hopes she’ll feel that.  He stated it’s nice to see when folks come in and you get to talk to them later and see how they feel about being welcomed and hear we are one big family.  He appreciates her being here and picking DelCom.  He concurred with his fellow board members for all they brought up from Nikki Southerland to the football team and to all the good things that are going on here.  He stated there are a lot of great things going on at DelCom and he couldn’t be happier.  He stated with the administrators and the daily grind they deal with in today’s world, we have an outstanding staff.  He thanked Mr. Stebbins and his staff for what they’ve dealt with lately.  He stated there’s just a lot going on and congratulated everyone for all that’s taken place.


  1. FUTURE MEETINGS


  1. A regular meeting of the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Monday, November 20, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.



  1. ADJOURNMENT


A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Valerie Alexander and Board President, John Adams, adjourned the meeting at 6:54 p.m.
