  1. CALL TO ORDER


At 6:30 p.m. Board President, John Adams called the meeting to order.

A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Valerie Alexander to amend the agenda, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. TENTATIVE AGREEMENT MEETING TO DISCUSS THE TENTATIVE MASTER

John Adams, Board President, opened up discussion on the Tentative Master Contract Agreement.

  1. Recommendation to increase hours for Abigail Cicotte, Food Service Cook at Delta High School, from 3.00 hours per day to 5.75 hours per day effective September 25, 2023.

  1. Recommendation to employ Melvin Blevins as a 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball Coach at Delta Middle School effective for the 2023-24 school year.

  2. Recommendation to employ Cody LeCount as a Head Wrestling Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2023-24 school year.

  1. Lynn Calloway and Nancy Kunk request permission to attend College for All Learning Tours to be held from November 7, 2023 through     November 10, 2023 in McAllen, TX.


  1. Haley Cross and Jill Selvey request permission to attend the Indiana School Nutrition Association State Conference to be held from      November 8, 2023 through November 10, 2023 at the French Lick Resort in French Lick, IN.


  1. Amy Larrabee requests permission to attend Elevating Education to be held from November 28, 2023 through November 29, 2023 at the Hyatt Regency in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Cindy Kunda requests permission to attend PowerSchool University to be held from March 3, 2024 through March 8, 2024 in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

  1. Cody LeCount, Delta Wrestling Club, requests permission to use the Delta High School wrestling room from September 2023 through September 2024 to hold practices and events, as presented. 


  1. Mark Detweiler, Delta Boys’ Basketball, requests permission to use the Delta High School gymnasiums from November 2023 through February 2024 to hold youth basketball league, as presented. 


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. A motion was made by Alice Gillis and seconded by Jacob Case to approve Zoe Ashcraft as a Teacher at Delta High School effective October 2, 2023, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. Information and Proposals


  1. Superintendent


  1. Superintendent Kile informed the Board about the following fundraisers:


  1. Via Smith, Royerton PTO, requests permission to sell Merrywood Candles from October 3, 2023 through           October 20, 23, as presented.  Proceeds go towards the PTO fund.


  1. Mark Detweiler, DHS Freshman Class, requests permission to hold a Sadie Hawkins Dance on November 4, 2023, as presented.  Proceeds go towards the Freshman class.


  1. Assistant Superintendent


  1. Donations:


A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Valerie Alexander to approve the following (items 1-2):


  1. Request for Eaton Elementary to accept the donation of Lysol wipes from Countryside Child Care Center, as presented.

  2. Request for Eaton Elementary to accept the donation of Amazon gift cards from H.O.P.E., as presented.  

The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS


Jacob Case – Mr. Case thanked all administrators and teachers who got together to knock-out the contract for teachers.  He thinks it’s good for the district and keeps teachers here and attracts more teachers as needed.  He welcomed Ms. Ashcraft.  He hopes everyone has a great rest of the week, finishes out strong, and has a safe and enjoyable fall break. 


Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis is thankful for the teacher contract and knows how stressful that can be and stated it’s a relief when it’s taken care of.  She thanked Dr. Gullion for his monthly finance review.  She congratulated Ms. Ashcraft and hopes it’s a great career for her.  She wished everyone a safe, fun, and relaxing fall break. 


Valerie Alexander – Ms. Alexander concurred with her fellow board members.  She welcomed Ms. Ashcraft and is happy to see her here.  She’s happy everything went well with the teachers’ contract.  She thinks both sides are trying to do what’s best for the kids and everything falls into place with that.  She’s happy to hear about all the nice things going on in the corporation.  She stated she agrees with Mr. Case and hopes everyone has a nice and safe fall break. 


Lance Engle – Mr. Engle wished good luck to the sports teams beginning sectionals.  He thanked Dr. Gullion for his presentation on the finances and stated it’s appreciated.  He knows a lot of hard work goes into putting that together.  He welcomed Ms. Ashcraft and is happy for her.  He thanked the teachers and administrators for getting together for the teachers’ contract and he’s glad everything went smooth with that.


John Adams – Mr. Adams concurred with his fellow board members. He stated he’s been here a long time and some agreements have gone smoother than others, but it sounds like everything worked out well with this one.  He congratulated both sides for getting together and doing what’s best.  He welcomed Ms. Ashcraft and stated he’s glad to have her.  He thanked Dr. Gullion for the full picture on the finances.  He stated it doesn’t matter what kind of donation it is, people are thinking about our kids and corporation and are willing to donate so he’s happy to accept that.  He stated the Board was able to be in Indianapolis for their annual school board conference and thanked everyone for taking the time out of their busy schedules to attend.  He stated it was a great time to be together and learn from other schools.  He commented he talked to some other folks and he’s thankful where we are because there are some schools struggling.  He stated we all have our struggles, but some of them don’t have the financing and can’t really offer much.  He stated these are people he’s known for a while and it’s nice to run into them.  He said you kind of feel sorry for them because he knows they want to do great things and that’s why he’s thankful when things come together and benefit our teachers, kids, parents, and corporation.  He stated also having the fellowship of the board in making sure we are moving this corporation forward in the best way possible with what we have.  He stated it was time well spent and he looks forward to that every year and is thankful we can do that.  



  1. FUTURE MEETINGS


  1. A regular meeting of the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Monday, October 16, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.


  1. A Ratification Meeting on the Teacher Collective Bargaining Agreement is scheduled for Monday, October 16, 2023 during the regular scheduled board meeting.



  1. ADJOURNMENT


A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Valerie Alexander and Board President, John Adams, adjourned the meeting at 6:54 p.m.
