MINUTES


Present:  Lance Engle, Vice President; Valerie Alexander, Secretary; Alice Gillis, Member; Jacob Case, Member; Darin Gullion, Assistant Superintendent; and Greg Kile, Superintendent


Absent:  John Adam, President



  1. CALL TO ORDER


At 6:30 p.m. Board Secretary, Lance Engle called the meeting to order.



  1. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE


At this time, Board Secretary, Lance Engle asked for nominations for Vice

President of the Board of Education.  A motion was made by Valerie Alexander and seconded by Jacob Case to nominate Lance Engle as Vice President of the Board of Education.  The motion was approved 4-0 vote.  


Board of Education Vice President, Lance Engle, asked for nominations for Secretary of the Board of Education.


A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Alice Gillis to nominate Valerie Alexander as Secretary of the Board of Education.  The motion was approved 4-0 vote.



  1. AMEND AGENDA


A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Valerie Alexander to amend the agenda, as presented.  The motion was approved 4-0 vote.



  1. COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE FLOOR 


Lauren Wehlage introduced herself and her family.  She stated she will be an instructional assistant at Eaton Elementary and she’s excited to get started.

  1. Conference Requests/Field Trips


  1. Mary May requests permission to attend Kagan Cooperative Learning to be held on August 24, 2023 at the Hancock Wellness Center in New Palestine, IN.


  1. Amanda Craw requests permission to attend Journaling to Manage Educator Stress and Apply Journalizing in the Classroom to be held on September 8, 2023, January 12, 2024, and May 3, 2024 at the BSU Fishers Center in Fishers, IN.


  1. Chyenne Wilder requests permission to attend the IASP Fall    Professionals Conference to be held from November 19, 2023 through November 21, 2023 at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, IN.

The motion was approved 4-0 vote.

  1. A motion was made by Valerie Alexander and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the MACC Memorandum of Understanding with Blackford Schools, as presented.  The motion was approved 4-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Alice Gillis and seconded by Valerie Alexander to approve the OMS Agreement (DMS), as presented.  The motion was approved 4-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Alice Gillis and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the offer to purchase real estate, as presented.  The motion was approved 4-0 vote.


  1. Superintendent Kile informed the Board about the following fundraisers:


  1. Nancy Kunk and and Nicole Lodl, DHS Ag Department, requests permission to sell Century Resources from August 29, 2023 through September 15, 2023, as presented.  Proceeds go towards the FFA account.


  1. Morgan Jones and Victoria Vaughn, DMS Student Council, request permission to hold hat days and pajama days once a month from August through March, as presented.  Proceeds go towards Student Council.


  1. Haley Greiner, Victoria Vaughn, Morgan Jones, and Wendy Brown, DJHS/DMS Student Council, request permission to hold a Dance on September 15, 2023, as presented.  Proceeds go towards DJHS and Student Council.


  1. Nakkia Patrick, DMS Yearbook, requests permission to hold an 8th Grade Dance on May 10, 2023, as presented.  Proceeds go towards the Yearbook account.

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS


Jacob Case – Mr. Case stated he’s glad to be back.  He stated it’s going to be hot this week so all athletes please hydrate.  He said they are constantly passing out water at work so the athletes playing sports outside need to do the same.  


Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis welcomed Ms. Wehlage and Ms. Arnold.  She wished good luck to all sports teams. 


Valerie Alexander – Ms. Alexander congratulated everyone for the IREAD scores and congratulated teachers for all their hard work with everything.  She stated she’s worried about all the athletes this week and for everyone to make sure they hydrate and stay out of the heat this week.  She’s excited sports are up and going.


Lance Engle – Mr. Engle stated the IREAD scores are fantastic.  He’s proud of our corporation for all the hard work they do.  He stated school sports are getting off to a hot start.  He informed everyone Ms. Wilder’s father passed away this past week and his heart goes out to her and her family. He stated we are all thinking about and praying for her.




  1. FUTURE MEETINGS


  1. A regular meeting of the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.


  1. A Public Hearing on CP Plan, Bus Replacement Plan, and 2023 Budget will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at the Administration Building.



  1. ADJOURNMENT


A Budget Review Work Session was held immediately following the business meeting.


A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Valerie Alexander and Board Vice President, Lance Engle, adjourned the meeting at 6:48 p.m.




Work Session:


Dr. Gullion, Assistant Superintendent, previewed the 2024 Budget.  A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve advertisement of the 2024 budgets and plans.  The motion was approved 4-0 vote.
